Hemroid Banding

Hemroids can be easily cured with diet changes and simple exercises. When the patient is not satisfied with the prescriptions the doctor would go in for ligation which is also called banding. To understand the procedure better we may have to see what hemorrhoids are. These are basically blood veins that are swollen up that cause intense pain to the patient. Ligation or banding them would mean stopping the blood supply to these veins so that they eventually shrink and whither away.

As the blood is no more circulated the veins would naturally get smaller and stop giving any problems. The banding is done to achieve this purpose both at the anus and also at the rectum. This way a painful hemorrhoid which is also bleeding at times can be cured off. There are other hemorrhoids that give serious troubles to the patient like the one that comes out through the anus whenever the patient tries to pass stools. This is a very painful condition and this can be cured only by banding.

Let us see how the banding is actually done. The doctor will select a particular hemorrhoid and use a small rubber band to cut of the blood supply to it from the body. This way the blood supply is permanently cut off and the vein will dry up and will be gone. This procedure is done after giving enough of anesthesia. The rubber band will be there for another fifteen days and the period will be very painful indeed.

Though this procedure appears to be simple enough the recovery period may take much longer. As many blood vessels have been cut and done away with the recovery is likely to be very painful. The hemorrhoids can be done away with in such a method and sometimes it is worth the pain to suffer the pain of surgery for some time instead of suffering the painful condition life long. The doctor will not suggest this method for a patient for whom the prolapsed hemorrhoid is a permanent thing outside the anus.

As explained the doctor will warn you of extreme pain during the banding and also after the banding. There can be unexpected bleeding which must be reported to the doctor who did the banding. The doctor can attend to it and see to it that the bleeding stops.

There might also be infections arising out of this and there will be problems in passing stools for some time. But in 15 days time every thing will be back to normal. However this is also not a permanent cure and another hemorrhoid may develop. So do not strain while passing stools and do not lift heavy weights. If you do this you will be back with the same problem. You must avoid constipation always and for this you must have a complete change in your diet habits. Add enough of dietary fiber in your diet and drink enough of water so that passing of stools is always easy.
